LEADERS WORTH FOLLOWING – CULTIVATING EFFECTIVE LEADERSHIP IN THE DIGITAL AGE
When thinking about what has been called the “new normal” I wonder, if something is “new”, can it be “normal”? And if it is “normal”, can it be “new”? I think what is both “new” and “normal” is change.
With the pandemic our world experienced a major reset and continues to change at a rapid pace. Remote workforces must collaborate within digital ecosystems that are often extremely complex. The ability to separate rest, work, and play to maintain a healthy work/life balance is becoming increasingly more difficult. Teams that are made up of different cultures, generations, mindsets, and personalities must be more agile and innovative. Communication and relationships, the foundation of effective and efficient team dynamics, is often overlooked as “leaders” wish to get to execution and capacity.
As our world changes, leadership needs to change. Our leadership mindset must be transformed to meet these never-ending challenges. Leadership is often mistaken for position and the C-suite is siloed from other executive and management layers. This lack of alignment impacts the entire workforce, and ultimately, customers, clients, students, patients, or whomever consumes what you do. The ability to look into the leadership mirror and understand how others perceive your leadership has become foggy. What is it like to be on the other side of you? What are your blind spots? When is the last time that you looked to see if people were truly following you?
Here's the call to action: What are you willing to do? It is easy to shift the blame somewhere else, but what are you willing to do? If you are an executive, are you willing to share, coach, mentor, and yes, listen? If you are a mid-level director, manager, or supervisor, are you willing to learn, share, listen and develop your ability to lead at a higher level? If you are an aspiring leader, are you willing to make your voice heard about what it is like to be part of a culture that is demoralized by poor leadership, and to listen and learn?
The inaugural Alaskan Leadership Symposium is aimed at providing ideas that challenge the status quo. It may seem strange to target an audience as diverse and broad as we are seeking to bring to the Captain Cook Hotel’s Discovery Ballroom on January 23rd and 24th, 2023. Our objective is to bring our community together to share perspectives, exchange ideas and tangible ways to refine and grow Alaskan leadership. We have made it through a lot together. We have endured economic crises, pandemics, earthquakes, storms, and more. Let’s get together to share our experiences, listen, positively challenge, and equip ourselves with a leadership mindset for the future. Let’s gain clarity, think differently, and become leaders that others want to follow.
We have assembled a small group of dynamic speakers that have helped others become better leaders and communicators. We have invited local leaders from diverse industries, backgrounds, and experiences to participate and facilitate panel discussions. We would like to bring together different perspectives, skills, tools, and techniques to help us take our leadership to the next level. Are you ready? What are YOU willing to do? We look forward to your participation and collaboration!
