A recent Computer Emergency Response Team, Coordination Center, technical report defined an insider threat as a malicious insider; however, the threat can be minimum (unintentional harm, accidental) or catastrophic as in a malicious threat with privileged access. The malicious threat is well planned and premeditated to achieve certain objectives. Cybersecurity is the popular topic when insider threats are discussed; however, an insider threat can manifest itself as a technical and/or human consideration in any area of the organization.
